Web Design—Frequent questions Email or bookmark this page

If you have a question not answered here don't hesitate to ask us.

Are the web sites you create written in proprietary code? Can I or someone else easily update them down the road?

We code the sites we develop to meet World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards. Our sites are as non-proprietary as they get. This means that the broadest range of people can correctly view your site and you can employ the broadest range of editors to work on your site in the future.

Note: Sometimes advanced or unique features require coding that is not classified by W3C and thus does not validate with them. In all cases we test our developed sites major browsers to ensure consistent function. Also, with content management sites and blogs, non-technical users enter content and all the content they enter may not technically validate with W3C.

What is the World Wide Web Consortium and why does it matter if my site complies with their standards?

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is the international organization that develops protocols and standards for web design. One its primary missions it to establish broad compatibility between hardware and software used to access the Web. They promote open (non-proprietary) standards for web languages and protocols to achieve a more reliable and consistent worldwide Web performance.

By having a site built to W3C standards you are insuring the broadest base of accessibility and consistent functionality to all visitors and you are investing in a site that can be easily updated and maintained by a larger group of designers.

What browsers do your sites work with?

We build our sites to W3C standards to ensures the broadest compatibility with most browsers. However, even with W3C validated sites, various browsers can display the same HTML differently.

According to the W3C, the most popular Internet Browser by a significant margin is Microsoft Internet Explorer family, with the other major browser being Mozilla-Firefox. We frequently test our sites using Safari which is used on some Apple Macintosh systems. We test our pages for proper rendering in these four primary platforms which comprises virtually all of the browsers in use today.
