In addition to intuitive updating and editing of text by non-technical users, WebSite 2.0 also allows full XHTML editing of the content section of your pages and full site design and application development and integration within the WebSite 2.0 / CMS Made Simple framework.
Basic Guidelines for working with XHTML code within the WebSite 2.0 / CMS Made Simple environment.
- To view the code of your content toggle the source button on the editor.
- It's probably a good idea to cut and paste all the code content into a plain text editor (not MS Word!) like MS Notepad and save it on your hard drive in case you need to revert back to the original code.
- You can edit the code in a plain text editor like Notepad, MS FrontPage or Adobe DreamWeaver but in the later you'll want to avoid using a lot of their standard wysiwyg tools. There are also free open source HTML editors out there like Nvu at http://nvu.com
- When adding photos make sure they are optimized! Otherwise they'll create very slow webpages. You can optimize photos best using Adobe Photoshop but it's expensive...there other options including free online services like GIFbot.
- Regarding the actually coding, you'll want to code for XHTML 1.0 transitional.
- For a good basic introduction to coding see Apple's Web Page Development: Best Practices.
